As I read through today's gospel I can’t help but think about the ultimate betrayal of Judas Iscariot and his willingness to hand Jesus over for thirty pieces of silver. Judas was one of Jesus’s disciples and had walked with him amongst adversities and miracles, how could he do this to his friend who believed in him.
The betrayal of Judas to Jesus highlights how fragile human relationships can be when prioritizing personal gain over values, trust, friendship, and loyalty. Many of us have felt a violation of trust or betrayed someone that was close to us. God gave us all free will, that free will gives us choices, but those choices can also lead to consequences. Are we willing to jeopardize a healthy relationship by making selfish decisions?
As the season of lent is ending it is a good time to reflect on the importance of loyalty and integrity in our life. Is our want for the best and the most more important than our values of trust, friendship, loyalty? Stay vigilant to the temptations that can lead us down the wrong path. Stand firm and true when faced with a choice that tests our faithfulness?
